ARC Artist Interview

What kind of art do you make/do?

Musician/producer/performer

How did you get into art?

Born into it with my father. He played in bands and had a hit record when I was young. I have 4 sisters. 1 plays bass in bands and 2 are professional dancers… art is in our family.

What does your creative process look like?

The music usually starts with a rhythm or a “hook.” I think my better songs kind of write themselves, I really let it flow out and find out what it sounds like when I’m done. Very few songs have to be thought about or planned… If I try to force something out, its usually not that good. I tend to write lyrics for songs based on life experiences… usually in “code” that lets me express myself, but I’m the only one who really knows what I’m saying… It’s very therapeutic and a way for me to stay in the moment and keep some sort of sanity.

What is your relationship to recovery, and how has your artistic practice influenced that?

I have been through abuse/addiction. I lost all my creativity during my self-created chaos.. music lets me live in the moment and focused. I’ve also expressed my story through many of my songs… again, in “code”. My songs are typically uplifting, expressing the hope to grow and be a better person for me and my friends/family/spouse. Music is my healthy “escape” instead of the losing my person in a substance.

Are there any current and/or past projects that you are particularly proud of?

I have released an EP and a full album, both while I was clear headed and in a good place in life. Ultimately the music and the lyrics do tell my discovery, accepting the problem, outlook on hope, finding a new and healthy place in my life that lead to a new healthy relationship and true happiness.

Tell us a little about what you’ll be performing in the Concert on Saturday night:

We are showing video from a couple gigs that we have played since the COVID issue started. So they are live, but with social distancing, no one could stand in front of the stage… it allowed for some nice clean shots of the band with the audience involvement behind the cameras. The songs are on the “My Surrender” album that is releasing on Sept 18th. Singles have been released prior.

Is there any particular place you draw your inspiration from these days?

Simply living in the moment and my relationship with others.

Any books/tv shows/movies you’re hooked on right now?

Just music

Any last words/fun facts/jokes you’d like to share!

I can try to think of some. lol
